How much does a hair transplant cost?
How much does a hair transplant cost?
Over the last few years, the cost of hair transplants has been decreasing. The appearance of new clinics and improvements at the technical level have allowed hair transplant to be accessible to a larger volume of people. The increasingly personalized and efficient service today allows any patient suitable for surgery to be operated on in less than 4 days with an economically advantageous budget.
Obviously not all clinics offer the same service and the same price, not all grafts have the same cost. Many times the budget is determined according to the following factors: State-of-the-art technologies, experienced professionals in the sector, quality of service, modern infrastructure, etc…
One of the things that has revolutionized the world of hair transplantation in Turkey is the subsidies provided by the state to the medical sector in Istanbul. This has allowed Turkey to become today one of the first world destinations for hair grafting both in terms of quality and price.
We can, for example, compare the prices of Turkey with those of our country. A hair graft with the FUE Sapphire technique in Spain costs approximately €4,500 while a graft at Hairback Clinic with a service including luxury accommodation, transfers, transportation, a modern hospital and experienced professionals costs only €1,890 with a guaranteed result.
Competitive prices and impeccable quality of service is a combo that has resulted in thousands of English traveling to Turkey to be operated by the best for a lower price.
Beware of low cost clinics
As in all sectors, there are medical centers that offer incredibly low prices, promising exceptional service and quality results. They are not to be trusted, for the simple reason that such low prices cannot be offered by clinics that have an experienced medical team and high-tech facilities. That is why, before undergoing an intervention and choosing a clinic, you must take these parameters into account. Feel free to research the clinic and ask for results. It is essential to make sure that you are in good hands and true professionals.
Having a hair transplant can solve our alopecia problem forever. Despite this, it is normal for a multitude of doubts to arise when deciding. Apart from the question of the price of a hair transplant, we detail a series of frequently asked questions that patients usually have:
The capillary implant, what is it really?
A capillary graft is a process that allows, through the extraction of follicles, to graft follicles in the areas that suffer from alopecia to cover the areas that present bald spots. The follicles are redistributed taking into account a series of parameters to provide a natural result to the patient. It is the only process today capable of returning hair to a person who has genetic alopecia on their scalp.
What are follicular units?
The follicular units are the groups of hair that each person has on their scalp, made up of between 1 and 4 hairs depending on the genetics of each patient, and largely determine the number of hair grafts that can be performed.
What techniques are used to perform a hair graft?
In 2022, we can talk about 3 main techniques. The most common being the FUE technique. It is the most modern technique and is minimally invasive. Each follicle is extracted individually, one by one. After extracting them, micro incisions are made in the scalp to be able to place them in the area that suffers from alopecia. At HairBack Clinic, we use the FAST FUE Revolution technique. It is an evolution of the Sapphire technique, it consists of keeping the follicles outside the scalp for as little time as possible, thus ensuring a higher survival rate.
The other technique that has become famous in recent years is the DHI technique. The extraction method is exactly the same as for the FUE technique. But when it comes to implanting the follicles, a tool called “Implanter Pen” is used, it is an implantation stylet. This technique is minimally invasive and allows a more precise calculation of the implantation angle of the follicles. This technique allows grafting the follicle directly on the scalp without making previous incisions.
Another technique that also exists is the FUSS (called strip technique in Spanish). It is the oldest, and consists of extracting a strip of hair from the donor area to obtain the follicles that are going to be grafted. After the graft is closed it is cut with a barely visible scar.
How many follicles are necessary for a hair implant?
It is important to remember that each case is different, and the number of follicles needed to perform a hair graft can vary from one patient to another. Not all people have the same density in the donor area and it is a factor that will determine the number of follicles that can be extracted from there. You also have to consider the quality of the hair, its thickness, its color and the type of hair.
Is everyone a candidate for a graft?
In the majority, men are more subject to alopecia than women, but lately more and more women are undergoing hair transplantation. One of the most important first steps is to carry out an initial assessment with a specialist in the sector to ensure that one is a candidate for this type of intervention. The donor area and the type of alopecia suffered by the patient should be analyzed.
This first consultation is essential since it will determine which of the techniques is the most adapted and the intervention will be planned correctly. The hair implant will be performed in case of genetic alopecia, trauma, burns or other reasons.
In some cases and due to very specific factors, the intervention cannot be carried out.
From what age can a hair implant be performed?
Generally, it is usually advised to perform the implant after the age of 25. But in some cases it can even be done earlier and there is no age limit to undergo this operation. Above all, the doctor will have to assess the patient’s state of health (illnesses, allergies, etc.)
How long does the hair transplant last?
This also depends on the type of intervention, the technique used and the volume of follicles to be grafted. In general, the FUE technique is the shortest and can last between 6 and 8 hours. (in case of Mega sessions). The DHI technique usually takes a little longer since the follicles are grafted one by one (it can take up to 10 hours). Once the intervention is finished, the patient can go home, they do not require any type of subsequent hospitalization, but they will have to follow the guidelines provided by the specialist.
Does the implant hurt?
A hair implant does not usually hurt, you may feel a little discomfort when the anesthesia is performed. It must be understood that today the modern techniques used are very minimally invasive and are designed to alleviate the discomfort that may be felt during the intervention. You can always feel some discomfort, but they are mild and bearable.
How long does the postoperative period last?
The postoperative period of a hair implant is very mild. Being performed under local anesthesia does not require any type of hospitalization. A relative rest will be recommended during the first week, and a hair washing routine will have to be followed as indicated by the surgeon. There are some guidelines that must be followed during the first weeks (Do not wear a hat or helmet, do not expose yourself to the sun or swim in the sea, etc…), but it is not something that greatly influences your usual routine.
What complications can there be?
Risk 0 never exists. But hair grafting is a very safe intervention. You may experience swelling due to the local anesthesia that may go down, but this edema usually disappears after 3 days. it is also possible that you will notice some stinging that will last a very short time.
